Qatar-Argentine Relations


The history of the bilateral relations between the State of Qatar and the Republic of Argentina began when the two countries issued a joint declaration  on 06/15/1974 in New York, where the pillars of the  diplomatic relations between Doha and Buenos Aires were set up, and that was the nucleus that formed the beginning of the relationship that developed significantly between the two countries especially after they signed a Memorandum Of Understanding in February 1994 for the exchange of diplomatic missions, which took place  after the visit of His Highness the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani to Argentina in 2010 which gave these relations a political dimension that  paved the way for the diplomatic representation. Argentine government inaugurated its Embassy in Doha in 2012, and the State of Qatar  did the same  in Buenos Aires in 2013.

 

Mutual visits

  • His Highness Sheikh / Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani - Emir of the State of Qatar, visited the Republic of Argentina in July 2016, the visit strengthened political relations between the two countries, and represents the latest and most important chapter in the relations between the State of Qatar and the Republic of Argentina.
  • Ms. Gabriela Michetti- Vice President of Argentina visited Doha in November 2016.
  • Former President Cristina Fernandez visited Doha in January 2011.
  • His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani visited the Republic of Argentina in 2010, this was followed by other official visits by senior officials of the Argentine government at various levels to Doha.

 

Agreements between the two countries

Several agreements and memorandums of understanding were signed between the State of Qatar and the Republic of Argentina in the fields of  economy, commerce, industry, sports, tourism and culture, and  there are various  agreements under study that are  expected to be signed in the near future.

In 2014 the Joint Ministerial Trade Commission was established between the Government of the State of Qatar and the Government of the Republic of Argentina, as stipulated in the Economic, Trade and Technical Cooperation Agreement signed between the two countries on January 18th  2010 signed  in Buenos Aires.

In November 2016, the Joint Ministerial Trade Commission entered into force.
